MWC’s collaborative and creative work processes, along with the desire to have a sustainable working environment, were the main concepts that informed the building’s architecture. Features include a building layout that benefits from natural light, with little need for artificial light; tactics to control heat loss and heat gain include light-colored stucco and roof materials, high-quality windows with metal shade screens, concrete floors, and highly insulated exterior walls and stem walls; water use efficiency strategies include native desert landscaping, automatic faucets, low-flow toilets and faucets, and a temporary irrigation system; recycling of construction waste; engaging with a green janitorial service; implementing an internal green team to enforce the "Reduce. Reuse. Recycle." principle in the day-to-day working environment; providing preferred parking for low-emitting and fuel efficient vehicles; and installing green materials that include recycled content, are low in toxicity, and contain no urea-formaldehyde.
